This is an example of how to pray through the Scriptures and allow the Bible to shape your time in praying to God. This guided prayer is based on the “Lord’s Prayer”:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
1.Go through the Lord’s prayer, praying each part in the mood of adoration – what truth about God causes wonder in us, what work of God can we praise him for, etc.
2.Go through the Lord’s prayer, praying each part in the mood of confession – how have we fallen short, failed to experience God, struggled to want what he wants, etc.
3.Go through the Lord’s prayer, praying each part in the mood of thanksgiving – how has God overcome our failures and weakness with his love, what events or people can we acknowledge as gifts from God, etc
4.Go through the Lord’s prayer, praying each part in the mood of asking – what needs can we boldly ask for, what desires do we have for ourselves, our leaders and our church in the coming year, what seems to big to ask that we can risk asking, what seems too small to ask that we can depend on God for, etc.
