Scripture: Ecclesiastes 2:18-26 | Series: Ecclesiastes: Grounded Spirituality
Neither a life aimed at pleasure or one aimed at wisdom can bear the weight of the human search for meaning - so says the Teacher. But what about our work? What about the incessant creativity, pursuit of excellence and even justice - isn’t it our labor to leave the world a better place able to give us a sense of purpose? Like the other two options, only if we don’t think very hard about it. Because when we do, we discover this too is absurd. And yet there is one person whose life’s work managed not to be - and it’s through his work that ours can become a source of meaning.
