Scripture: Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 | Series: Ecclesiastes: Grounded Spirituality
After spelling out the absurdity of life (in the pursuit of pleasure, wisdom and success) and outlining the sources of it (death’s two faces: time and evil). The Teacher begins to offer some recommendations for coping. As long as we have really taken on board the absolute vanity of every human experience we can begin to find temporary solace in fleeting comfort, fallible wisdom and approximate justice. But the first and last place to turn for survival in a world rendered meaningless by death is God. The Teacher grants that there is a way of doing that which only perpetuates the absurdity of life - but in doing so he gestures toward the Way that leads to life.
