Scripture: Isaiah 43:1-7; Psalm 29; Luke 3:15-17; Luke 3:21-22 | Series: Epiphany 2019
When baptized, people become immersed both into the grave with this world, in solidarity with Christ’s suffering on its behalf; and also into the love of God which sent Him. God uses the physical act of baptism as his speech to confirm the transformation of the individual in relationship to the world (as one united with God and His people) and the world in relationship to the individual (as shining with the glory of His kingdom). These transformations are about sacred space - the waters of baptism as a new womb and the experience of this world as the dwelling place of God.
