Scripture: Jonah 1:1-3 | Series: The Sign of Jonah
Jonah's story is the story of a person wrestling with a unique and costly calling for the sake of the world which he struggled to accept. In other words, it's the story of our lives. It begins and ends in the middle, without Jonah ever really coming to terms with the vocation God gave him, which has caused some people to mistake it for the cautionary tale of a spiritual failure. Jesus didn't see it that way. Instead he called his own life "the sign of Jonah", taking up the call we run from In the circumstances of our lives, bearing our shame and failure in his own death and rising to transform our struggle into new life. Jesus transforms our struggle to accept God's call into the fulfillment of our calling. And as a result, the world is blessed.
