Scripture: Jonah 3:1-10 | Series: The Sign of Jonah
In the first half of the story Jonah ran from God's call. God would pursue him in the storm to draw him into the struggle to embrace his compassionate work in the world, ultimately subduing and converting him to his calling with his own compassionate deliverance. The second half of the book Jonah emerges from the depths of that conversion to fulfill his calling. Entering into it through the gates of Nineveh will reveal three aspects of it - the call to suffer the city's sin, the call to serve the city's repentance and the call to subvert the city's culture. The only way for us to fulfill these aspects of our calling is to unite the story of our work with the story of God's work in Jesus Christ.
